Dear Alaska,
3 years ago when I brought you home, you were my little baby, and you still are today. You have changed my world, and I cannot imagine a day without you greeting me at the door or pestering me for pets while I’m doing my business. If I could stop time and have you live forever, I would do so in a heartbeat. Ever since you came into my life, I am proud and honored to love, care for, and protect you. I am proud to be your mommy. You are more than just my best friend, you are a precious soul who has given me more than I could ever give you. Because I have you, I know what true love is.
Forever loving you,
Your Mommy
This past Tuesday, March 8th, was Alaska’s 3rd birthday (barkday as I like to call it). Coincidentally on International Women’s Day, the special occasion called for a celebration. I couldn’t have asked for better weather; it truly felt like the official first day of Spring.
Every year without fail, Alaska’s barkday is a big deal because SHE is a big deal. When my friends asked me what I was doing that day, I told them with confidence and enthusiasm I was spending the beautiful day celebrating my dog’s 3rd birthday.
I baked a homemade doggy cake using my own recipe that I planned the night before using simple, dog-friendly ingredients that I knew Alaska would love. It was a huge hit with the birthday princess! The recipe blog post is in the works. 🙂
And of course, because Alaska was turning 21 in dog years, we HAD to make it extra special with doggy beer! That is, non-alcoholic dog-friendly ‘beer’ made out of malted barley and chicken or beef stock. Check out the company YoDog Snackery, their unique line of beer makes for the best hydration warmed up and/or frozen in ice cube trays! They also offer the most delicious meaty treats. Stay tuned for a review coming soon.
For party decor, we bought 3 birthday balloons, some candles, and party hats. The birthday banner was done very simply with post-its and Sharpie, just to add a personal touch.
After devouring cake and posing for a couple of photos, we were out and about to the local park. It was a beautiful afternoon by the water with very few people out. A relaxing day of family fun is my kind of party.
Happy Birthday Alaska, my dear. I hope your day was as special as you are to me. 🙂
She is a lucky little dog, just wanted to ask for sure if she is an American Eskimo? I was lucky enough to have a miniature one for 14 years and I miss her every day. Enjoy every second you have her for. Mine was named Elbie.

Yes, Alaska is an American Eskimo! They are such special dogs, but they don’t come without serious attitudes. 🙂 Thank you for your kind words, and for stopping by my page!
