#SmallBusinessSpotlight: Active Dawg

Active Dawg is a new small business based in sunny Florida selling nutritious treats and supplements for dogs. The Founders experienced firsthand with their own dog Sophie how nutrition drives the quality of their lives and has the power to eliminate and prevent various diseases, so they began investigating what they could add to her diet that would help with both joint health, prevent dehydration, prevent the occasional bouts of soft stools and diarrhea and help her coat and skin. From there Active Dawg was born.

Our Review

Their product line currently consists of two items: chicken broth and peanut butter. Both products are dehydrated into powder form meaning they are produced fresh and can maintain a long shelf life in their dry state without the use of any preservatives.

The Chicken Broth is made with whole, fresh and organic chicken bones that are slow cooked for over 24 hours and then ground up into a fine powder. This product is Alaska’s favorite as she goes crazy for anything chicken. I rehydrate the powder with some warm filtered water and within seconds, it becomes a bowl of delicious, hearty chicken soup. What I love about this product is that is it very versatile. You can feed as it for a hydrating treat, or served over your dog’s meal for added nutritional benefits.

The Peanut Butter powder is a perfect snack for Alaska. It is made using organic ground roasted peanuts – that’s it! Depending on how much water you add, you can create a paste-like consistency that is more rich or soup that is more diluted. Alaska enjoys this treat both ways. If your dog loves peanut butter, they will love the nutty flavor. I give this to Alaska after long walks to give her a boost of energy and hydration.

Further Thoughts

Active Dawg’s customer service can’t be beat. I got to communicate directly with the Founder and she is so transparent and responsive. I asked her many questions regarding the sourcing of ingredients, manufacturing process, and nutritional value. Don’t underestimate the small size though! Each 2oz container makes many servings, depending on the feeding amount you give your dog. Keep in mind that a little goes a long way to make a highly nutritious treat. Active Dawg treats get a 2 paws up from Alaska and I highly recommend them. If you’re looking for quality treat as well as to support a small business, look no further than Active Dawg!
