Summer has had a great start this year, giving us plenty of sunshine and high temperatures with the occasional thunderstorm. We try to take advantage of every weekend to head outdoors and explore new lands and revisit old ones.
Today, we had the wonderful experience of revisiting two places in our area that we absolutely love. The first was Coindre Hall in Huntington, NY which features a chateau for weddings and other events, and hidden in the back behind the parking lot is acres upon acres of grassy hills that Alaska knows very well as doggy heaven.
Open grass is surrounded by bushes and trees, and spaces in the lawn lead into hiking trails through the wooded back areas. The steep hills made perfect zoomie grounds for the dogs to play fetch and chase. At the very bottom of the of hill led to a small beach and harbor where people could be seen paddle boarding and cruising on their boats. The small beach area was more for dogs than for humans.
Alaska surprised us when she, on her own, went shoulder-deep into the water after a tennis ball. She has never dared to even dip her toes in the water, and the slapping waves frightened her. But today, she stepped out of her comfort zone and completely enjoyed herself in the water while we played a few rounds of fetch. Talk about being one proud momma! 🙂
Our next adventure was at Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay, NY which was the old home of Theodore Roosevelt. We’ve visited this gem once before last summer, and we always find more and more visitors.
The large, spacious property featured the historic house (which we did not get to tour), a pet cemetery, a few trails, and some barn houses.
Not only did we come back home with a few ticks on us, but also a better appreciation for all the lovely places that we have so close to home.
Until our next adventure.. 🙂
