Today we had the pleasure of spending the warm, sunny morning at 2 of our local favorite to-go spots. First, we stopped at the Little Bay Dog Run.
We take Alaska to the dog park mainly to socialize and to help her break out of her shell. Alone, in the house, she is the Queen of the Castle but outside among other four-legged furiends, she becomes shy and reserved with her guard up. On her good days, she will reciprocate some butt-sniffing with her doggy friends but sometimes she will vocally express when she’s had enough.
As usual, today she wandered off to the empty part of the dog run and stayed close to my feet. Other dogs, big and small, approached her for a friendly sniff and Alaska shyed away. One mutt barked at her and enticed her to play, but Alaska wasn’t having it. She gave a bark of her own to let him know she wasn’t interested.
Next, we stopped at Francis Lewis Park – one of our favorite summer hangout spots. It is a beautiful, spacious park with lots of grass, a children’s playground, and a small fenced-in beach. Oh, and did I mention, the view is INCREDIBLE. We get the perfect, unobstructed view of the Throgs-Neck Bridge while we dip our feet in the cool waves.
While Alaska is hesitant to wander beyond the shore, there’s other things in the park to keep her happy. For one, she loves to dig in the sand and rest in the shade.
Next time, I’ll remember to bring along her life vest, a ball, a 10 foot cable and some high-value treats to make it even more fun!
Hope all of our readers enjoyed a pawsome and eventful Sunday Funday! We’d like to hear how you spent the weekend, so let us know in the comments below! 🙂
