Instinct Raw Boost Mixers

For January’s Chewy.com Influencer program, we were also sent a 6 oz. bag of freeze-dried Instinct Rabbit Raw Boost Mixers from the brand Nature’s Variety to taste test and review. As a health-conscious pet owner, whenever I choose a commercial product for my pets, I immediately look at the ingredients list. What I absolutely love about the Raw Boost Mixers is that there are no grains, fillers, by-products, or other “junk” ingredients in this product, which are all too common in many other pet foods and treats. Nature’s Variety line of Instinct products is purely raw, and instinctively healthy.

Texture, Smell & Consistency

These bite-sized nuggets were soft and dry, as about 98% of moisture was removed during the freeze-drying process. They are also quite crumbly, and you can easily grind them into a powder and rehydrate with warm water to serve to your pet. There’s only a slight, neutral smell to these little guys but will have a hint more aroma if you rehydrate them.

When I chose Raw Boost Mixers, I had a good feeling that both Oreo and Alaska would like them because freeze-dried foods and treats aren’t new to them. In fact, freeze-dried is my back-up for whole, fresh raw food. The method of freeze-drying is as close to raw as you can get because essentially only moisture is removed, and vital nutrients and flavor are not compromised. The process of freeze-drying means longer shelf life (unlike fresh raw) and greater convenience.
True to my belief, both feline and canine ate these mixers right out of my hand. Alaska, being the gulper that she is, swallowed these without chewing. Oreo gently took one off the palm of my hand and set it on the table as he quietly munched away each crumb. When I come across a product that both my furry children like, it is a keeper in my crazy pet lady book!
Just one more… PLEASEEE!!
If you are thinking about transitioning your dog or cat to a less-processed, whole foods-based commercial diet, Instinct Raw Boost Mixers is the perfect product. Start by adding a small amount on top of their kibble or wet food, then slowly add more every few days. Alaska is on a completely raw diet, but Oreo is still kibble-fed because he does not take to raw. But when I added these mixers to his kibble, he thought I was giving him treats for every meal!
